Segment Order Preserving and Generational Garbage Collection for Prolog
Kostis Sagonas
Uppsala University
Abstract
In this talk two important issues in heap garbage collection
for WAM-based Prolog systems are going to be treated.
First, a new method for preserving the order of heap segments
in a copying garbage collector is going to be described.
Second, methods for (multi-)generational garbage collection
are going to be presented; in particular we are going to show
the importance of precise maintenance of generation lines and
will propose different and novel ways for its implementation.
An experimental evaluation of all methods is also going to be
presented.
Despite the technical nature of these results, an attempt to
make the talk understandable to a general audience is going to
be made.
