Programming Smart Phones: Practical Experiences
Christoffer Eriksson and Daniel Guldbrandsen
Abstract
This talk will give an overview of the issues involved in porting code from
a desktop computing platform to a smart phone computing platform. We will go
over the main differences in programming style, API features, and available
resources when programming desktops and smart phones. We will detail
specific problems that we have found when porting an interactive graphics
application from the PC environment to Symbian smart phones, and give
practical insights.
The speakers have spent the last year writing code for the Symbian operating
system, using the Nokia Series 60 and Ericsson UIQ user interfaces, as well
as Java MIDP. First as part of their MSc Thesis project, and lately as
independent consultants. The speakers are currently wrapping up their MSc
report on the topic.
